Story
Story: The story revolves around Azaan Khan, a young upright army officer working for RAW (Research and Analysis Wing). He is an informer, who has to go undercover beyond enemy lines and help find out enough information to be able to save his brother and the nation from destruction at the hands of Biological Warfare. What unfolds is a man's determination of saving his country against all odds of human defiance. In his journey, he meets Afreen, who helps Azaan realise that he too is vulnerable and has human sentiments. As the tagline of the movie claims, one country, one conspiracy and Azaan, who only has one desire to find his brother and the love for his country.
Story Treatment: Azaan seems like a beautiful journey in the beginning, but no sooner you discover that the destination looks foggy, it disappoints you. The story loses its threats and looks far from convincing. The vague incidents and the poor characterisation of a few key-characters take away the excitement attached to the action-drama, spanning different countries. If you overlook the storyline, the treatment is definitely Hollywood-ish. Action, stunts and dare-devil sequences act as a catalyst to a highly baffled storyline.
Star Cast: Hats-off to Sachiin Joshi for having being able to transmit similar expressions all throughout the movie, we wonder whether we should even term that look as an expression! However, the new entrant delivers the action sequences effortlessly, but his stone-faced look fails to create the pain and patriotism required for the role. Candice Boucher, an international model and the recent Playboy cover-girl, does justice to whatever she is offered. Chemistry is a long lost word between Sachiin and Candice, probably Sachiin's expressions need to be blamed. Dalip Tahil and Ravi Kissen play their parts well, while Aarya Babbar also manages to leave an impact with his small role.
Direction: Prashant Chadha of Aap Ka Suroor fame, aims at setting a Hollywood trend with a slick, fast-paced and racy action thriller. However, locations like France, Germany, Hong Kong, Poland, South Africa are wasted due to the poor story treatment. The director does try and manage to do justice to a poorly framed thought. Also, background score and few breath-taking scenes help the director in making his actors perform. The director misses out on earning a few brownie points due to the weak screenplay.
Dialogue/cinematography/music: Dialogues create the sense of patriotism entailed in the story. Also, the conversation between Dalip Tahil and the bad guys is impactful. Cinematography is brilliant, which turns out to be a visual treat. Background music acts like icing on the cake for a movie with powerful action scenes. Songs too have been placed at the right places.
3Ups and Downs: Actions lovers might have a reason to spend money, but people who demand a strong storyline, BEWARE! Different countries, high voltage action and Playboy cover girl Candice Boucher on a beach for few seconds, can prove to be the strong points for which you can push yourself to grab a seat. Shabby story treatment takes away the motive from the film, making it utterly tasteless. It’s a beautiful cake with no sugar!
