Payanam directed by radhamohan and produced by prakash raj is a total treat to watch. Cinematography by K.V.Gugan, editing by kadhir , music by pravin mani. The film stars prakash raj, naga arjuna, m.smbasker, poonam kaur, barath reddy, thalaivasal vijay, sanakhan and many others.
The film is a flight hijack drama. One may wonder, having seen a dozen hollywood hijack films will this film have anything new to offer? The answer is yes. The film is special and unique in its own way. The film doesn’t have a very different story. It’s just like any other hijack film where a passenger flight is hijacked by terrorists and they demand the release of a deadly terrorist. But what is special about the film is it’s screenplay. I would say the screenplay is the hero of the film. The film is basically an action thriller but at so many places you laugh and cry. The situation and the pressure undergone by the passengers, the terrorists, the government officials have been shown beautifully. The film connects well with the audience. Cheers to radhamohan for that. Another special feature of the film is the characterization.
All the characters have been characterized very well. M.S.Basker, ravi shastri, afsana(name in the film) the kid, prithviraj, prithvi raj’s fan sam, thalaivasal vijay, poonam kaur need a special word of appreciation. In the past also there have been tamil films with a hollywood film kind of a plot but payanam is strong in one place where those films made a big mistake. Radhamohan has made the film like its happening in India and that is why the film connects well with the audience while those films were made like the story was actually happening in Hollywood. This what makes payanam unique. There are lots of twists and turns which keeps you at the edge of the seat for most part of the film. Casting has been very good this time too like all other radhamohan films.
Prakash raj, naga arjun and barath reddy have all acted well, especially that one scene where prakash raj looses his temper. Cinematography and editing is a major strong point for the film. K.V.Gugan has captured the mood of the film very well through his cinematography. Kadhir’s editing helps the film move in a fast pace. Pravin mani’s background score has given the right feel for the film. All said and done there is still little room for for improvement and few simple flaws here and there but these don’t affect the flow of the film in anyway. As I said in the beginning the film is a must watch.
Hats off to prakash raj for producing a film of this kind. Hats off to radhamohan for delivering for the fifth consecutive time.
